Skin Profile: PCOS & Acne

Happy Tuesday everyone! Today we’re profiling @lindsrosso - Linds shared her skin journey with us so we could share more information with you on what worked for her, fun skin tips & more! We’re so excited to introduce Linds - a Sault Ste. Marie native who is now hustling in the fashion industry in beautiful B.C.!

Linds had perfect skin until she was 23, then began struggling with breakouts and rosacea. At 25 Linds was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). Since PCOS is a hormonal disorder caused by enlarged ovaries it can have major side effects on the skin. While we mostly hear about the noncancerous growths it causes, at the heart of this condition is a hormonal imbalance. It disrupts signals from the pituitary gland, resulting in a drop in estrogen and progesterone, and an increase in testosterone - this explains an increase in acne with PCOS. Here is where we circle back to one of our favourite topics - inflammation! While there are many options for treating acne, to effectively treat acne caused by a hormonal imbalance, we have to treat from there first. Incorporating anti-inflammatory foods can be highly beneficial, such as: tomatoes, kale, spinach, almonds, berries, etc. One way Linds has been treating from within is with seed cycling - the concept behind this is to eat seeds that replenish what you may be lacking during certain phases of your cycle, or limit the reuptake of a certain hormone during another part of your cycle. Seed cycling has also been shown to be great for decreasing inflammation in the body, thus it tackles the issue from multiple angles.

When it comes to topical treatment Linds reaches for Inner Glow. She struggled to find a product that would treat the breakouts without causing intense dryness or wouldn’t cause more breakouts.

A face oil wasn’t the initial product Linds thought would help, fearing that it would make her breakout or cause her to be too shiny. But after a lengthy testing phase, Linds has found it to be a great addition to her treatment regime. Inner Glow is packed with anti-inflammatory ingredients that also fight breakouts and keep the skin clean day after day, thus reducing the recurrence and length of time breakouts spend hanging around.
